Feature & Follow Friday: Gobsmacked


                                         

FEATURE & FOLLOW FRIDAY
How lucky to be featured this week. I'm excited, and hyped, so let's get this show on the road. Once you comment be sure to leave me your link so I can follow you back.



 Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate --? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that? 

Oh, I judge -- and unlike Judge Judy I don't get paid for it. It's the cover or the length that sometimes gets me doubtful.

Last year, I helped a friend teacher organize a science fair, and to thank me a fifth grader gave me a copy of Stargirl. Neither the cover or the premise gave me an idea of what I was about to read. Had the student actually read it? I don't know. What I do know is that I loved it.

It's about loving yourself, not caring what others think. Something not easy to do in high school. I'm happy the student passed the book along and plan to do the same.

    Congrats on being featured this week! I have never read a book that I thought I would hate but I have been pleasantly surprised by books before.

    That's cool that you ended up enjoying the book! I like surprises like that.

    I'm actually not a huge fan of a lot of books people love. One of them is the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's just not my thing. The writing... ugh. Don't get me started! Ha!

    I love that cover. It's so spare, and it looks like a child drew it, which is probably part of the appeal. Glad that you enjoyed it and that you're spreading the love!

    I haven't read Stargirl and i don't think i'd pick it up based on its cover :/ I try not to judge books by their covers but when i'm in a bookstore and there are so many books i get drawn to the ones with the pretty covers :P

    Stargirl is one of the books that has been recommended to me so many times and I have been resisting for some reason. I think seeing your answer to this FF has finally convinced me to give it a shot. Thanks and Congrats!

    Congrats on being featured!! I usually try not to judge a book by it's cover, although there are the absolutely stunning covers that you just can't help being drawn to. But I always have to go by the blurb, if it sounds like something I'd be interested in and sparks my curiosity then I'll read it. I'll have to put Stargirl on my TBR list :)

    Even as bad as it is I often judge whether or not I would like a book off of the summary and the cover. Like if a book has a really cheesy cover and I have never read a review on it, I will not pick it up to see what it is about.

    I've been meaning to read Stargirl FOREVER! I own a copy, but still haven't found the time, which is kind of crazy because it isn't a long book. Glad to hear that you loved it. Passing it along is a great idea to spead the love!

    Ok, that's just the cutest story of how you got the book!!

    It sounds like a book I totally could have used at that age, so it's nice to know something like that is circulating around schools at a time when kids really need such a positive message.

    Congratz on being featured! I actually have a vague memory of this book.....someone asked me to read it when I was in 5th grade, but I never did because the cover looked silly to me at the time. >.< Unfortunately, I tend to judge books by their covers...even back then.
